IR Sensor Module
৳100
Reflective infrared sensor that detects a surface a few millimetres away — the standard line-following and edge-detection sensor.
An infrared LED and a phototransistor sit side by side; the module reports how much light bounces back. A dark line absorbs the beam and a white surface reflects it, which is all a line-following robot needs.
What you can build
- Line-following robots
- Table-edge detection so a robot does not drive off
- Counting objects or encoder discs passing the sensor
Not sure it will work? Test your circuit free in Tekko Sim — on your phone, in Bangla or English.

Questions about the IR Sensor Module
Why does my line follower lose the line on a shiny floor?
Gloss reflects the infrared beam away from the receiver, so shiny black can read the same as white. Use matte tape on a matte surface and hold the sensor about 3 to 8 mm above it.
Should I use the analog or the digital output?
The digital output is simpler — set the threshold on the potentiometer and read HIGH or LOW. The analog output gives the actual reflected level, which is better if you want to calibrate in software or distinguish shades of grey.
Does sunlight interfere with it?
Yes. Daylight contains a lot of infrared and can saturate the receiver. Shield the sensor or keep the robot out of direct sun.
