LED White
৳2
Standard 5 mm white LED with a forward voltage around 3.2V, so it takes roughly a 100Ω series resistor on a 5V rail.
White LEDs are blue dies with a phosphor coating, which is why they share the higher forward voltage and need the same smaller resistor.
What you can build
- Small torches and task lighting
- Model and diorama illumination
- Camera fill light for a project enclosure

Questions about the LED White
Which resistor should I use with a white LED?
100Ω on a 5V supply. The 220Ω resistor that suits red and green leaves a white LED visibly dim, because white runs at roughly 3.2V rather than 2V.
Why does white sometimes look blue or yellow?
A white LED is a blue die under a yellow phosphor, and the blend shifts with viewing angle and drive current. Running it well under its rated current tends to make it look bluer.
Can I use one as a room light?
No. A single 5 mm LED at 20 mA produces a small amount of light, fine as an indicator or for a model. Room lighting needs high-power LEDs with a proper driver and heatsinking.
