PIR Motion Sensor (HC-SR501)

৳110

Passive infrared sensor that fires a digital output when a warm body moves in front of it, with adjustable sensitivity and hold time.

It detects the change in infrared as a person moves rather than emitting anything itself, so it draws very little current. Two potentiometers on the board set range and how long the output stays high.

What you can build

  • Automatic lights that switch on when someone enters
  • Intruder alarms and doorway counters
  • Power saving that wakes a display only when someone is present

Questions about the PIR Motion Sensor (HC-SR501)

Why does it keep triggering with nobody there?
PIR sensors respond to moving heat, so a fan, a heater, direct sunlight through a window or even a curtain moving in warm air will set them off. Turn the sensitivity down, and point the sensor away from windows and vents.
What do the two potentiometers do?
One sets sensitivity, which is effectively detection range, and the other sets how long the output stays HIGH after a trigger, from a few seconds up to several minutes.
Does it detect someone standing perfectly still?
No. It detects change, so a completely motionless person eventually stops registering. For presence rather than motion, use a different sensing approach such as radar or a distance sensor.
