Resistor 330 Ω

৳2

330Ω quarter-watt carbon film resistor — an LED series resistor giving a slightly dimmer, lower-current alternative to 220Ω on 5V.

Useful when an indicator is too bright to look at directly, or when several LEDs share a supply and total current needs holding down.

Where it is used

  • LEDs on 5V where 220Ω is uncomfortably bright
  • Indicator arrays where total current matters
  • General current limiting and pull-down duty

Questions about the Resistor 330 Ω

Should I use 220Ω or 330Ω with an LED?
Both are safe on 5V. 220Ω passes about 14 mA and 330Ω about 9 mA, so 330Ω is dimmer and easier on the eye for an indicator you look at up close. For an LED that has to be visible across a bright room, use 220Ω.
Does the lower current make the LED last longer?
Marginally, though a correctly resisted LED already lasts far longer than the project around it. The real reasons to choose 330Ω are comfort and total current budget.
What do the colour bands mean?
Orange, orange, brown, gold — digits 3 and 3, multiplied by ten, at 5% tolerance.
