Resistor 100 Ω
৳2
100Ω quarter-watt carbon film resistor — the correct series resistor for a blue or white LED running from 5V.
Also the usual choice for any LED on a 3.3V rail, where a 220Ω would leave the light too dim to read across a room.
Where it is used
- Blue and white LEDs on 5V
- Red, green and yellow LEDs on 3.3V
- Low-value current limiting and signal damping

Questions about the Resistor 100 Ω
What is 100Ω actually used for?
Most often as the series resistor for a blue or white LED on 5V, where their roughly 3.2V forward voltage leaves little headroom. It is also the right value for any LED colour on a 3.3V board.
How much current does it pass with an LED on 5V?
With a blue LED at about 3.2V, roughly 18 mA — close to the LED's rated 20 mA and comfortably bright.
What do the colour bands mean?
Brown, black, brown, gold. The first two bands are the digits 1 and 0, the third is the multiplier of ten, and gold indicates a 5% tolerance.
