Resistor 220 Ω
৳2
220Ω quarter-watt carbon film resistor — the standard series resistor for a red, green or yellow LED on a 5V supply.
This is the single most used resistor value in beginner electronics, and the one every Arduino starter tutorial reaches for.
Where it is used
- Red, green and yellow LEDs on 5V
- Current limiting on logic outputs
- Almost every introductory Arduino circuit
Not sure it will work? Test your circuit free in Tekko Sim — on your phone, in Bangla or English.

Questions about the Resistor 220 Ω
Why is 220Ω the default LED resistor?
On a 5V rail with a red, green or yellow LED dropping about 2V, 220Ω passes roughly 14 mA. That is bright, safely under the LED's 20 mA rating, and within what an Arduino pin can source. It is the value that works for the widest range of beginner circuits.
Can I use 220Ω with a blue or white LED?
You can, but it will look dim. Those colours drop about 3.2V, leaving only 1.8V across the resistor and around 8 mA of current. Use 100Ω for blue and white instead.
What do the colour bands mean?
Red, red, brown, gold — digits 2 and 2, multiplied by ten, at 5% tolerance.
